Dr Elena Papassissa is a London-based type designer with specialist expertise in Armenian script, and a graphic designer. Since 2013 she has been collaborating with international type foundries, type designers, and graphic design studios in London. Since October 2018 she has been working as a Visiting Practitioner and Associate Lecturer at the UAL, Camberwell, teaching on the type design course for second year BA students in Graphic Design. She was awarded her PhD by the University of Reading in 2019 with a thesis on ‘Convention, traditionalism, Latinisation, and modernity in Armenian typefaces across type-making technologies from 1512 to 1977’.
Elena is a member of the ATypI and the AGBU Young Professional (YP), a non-profit organisation involved in promoting worldwide the Armenian identity and heritage.
